An all-new four-day expedition race is launching in the Lake District this August.
The Adidas Terrex Adventure Race will cover 400km by fell-running, single-track mountain biking, kayaking, orienteering – and a few hidden surprises from the organisers as well.
“Teams will be provided with detailed maps, but good navigation is essential,” says Cheryl Frost from Open Adventure, who are running the race along with Adidas.
“Attitude is everything, so be prepared for the unexpected.”
If 400km sounds a bit much, you can’t get out of it that easily. There’s a 200km race for novices and slower teams, and a short prologue the night before the main race that’s free to enter and guaranteed to be a giggle.
“The race is packed with challenges for all, and makes a spectacular journey through the Lake District, taking in the best that this mountainous environment can offer,” says Cheryl.
The race has also been deemed hardcore enough to become one of the qualifying races for the Adventure Race World Series in 2010 (the first time in four years that the UK has been part of this series) – which means there should be some international competition too.
The race takes place from Friday 27 - Monday 30 August, with the prologue race on the evening of Thursday 26 August. The start point will be in Keswick (exact place and time TBC), and teams should contain four people of either sex. It costs £1,350 to enter a team, there’ll be some great prizes on offer (again TBC) and you’ll get lots of adidas goodies too.
