Coleman Fission X850 sleeping bag

For a multi day hike the Coleman Fission X850 sleeping bag might not be the first choice when it comes to cutting down on weight and packsize, due to its bulkiness. However, I would consider carrying the additional weight for the extra room to wiggle my toes. It certainly deserves a mention that Coleman has given the vertically unchallenged camper a thought when it comes to room from head to toe without leaving too much unnecessary fabric hanging about.

On a long weekend trip I feel, this is what this bag was made for. I found the X850 very cosy in the winter and easily adaptable for the summer months to make it a generous two/three season sleeping bag.

On a night when it fell to just below freezing I felt as snug as a bug in a rug, having no shivery moments during the night. It could have been a few degrees colder and even without the liner I reckon its comfort zone would not have been challenged. For warmer nights in summer, I simply remove the liner and unzip the bag for added ventilation.

When the bag gathered some condensation on the outside, which really can’t be helped-  the moisture stayed on the outside of the bag and I stayed dry.

The X850 is not as technical as some on the market - though what can you expect for around £40? For the price I felt it certainly fulfilled its purpose and met my needs as far as a British camping trip demands.

All round I found this bag provided me with plenty of warmth and room, making a good compromise between functionality and price.
