Contrary to what this article states, rigorous, repeatable tests (those conducted by the US Army spring to mind) show that while the breathability of PU lined membranes varies according to relative humidity & temperature, this is not so with E-vent, which exhibits similar performance regardless of across these variables.

The focus on the importance of ones under layers & venting is all well & rather ignores that people who concern themselves with membrane performance probably have that base well covered already? - a guest

lower end of the market dont use e-vent, gortex has just been around longer than event, and the north face and berghaus arnt really anything to shout home about they make vastly overrated products with even more outrageous prices who basically cater for people who you see walking down the high street with a NUPTSE 900 GOOSE DOWN JACKET , i think you will find that more "higher end" companies are now using e-vent such as rab and haglofs - a guest

I think that that is a fair article and the emphasis on jacket design, other parts of the clothing system and regular cleaning is correct.

However Event does breathe better, but the sheer marketing / brand power of Goretex has stopped key players from using this fabric.

Companies have been afraid of using Event in case Gore stop supplying them with product.

It is a real shame.

eVent is also used by companies such as Rab and Montaine - not comapnies you'd call the bottom end of the market.

Gore has beeen around far longer than eVent and business relationships and loyalty have developed over time, I'm sure that's the main factor. - Alun

Why does gore tex go with higher end of the market then like berghaus and north face? And event is found in lower end of the market like in hi tec and karrimor - a guest
