When it comes to getting off this fekking Island of ours are you a troglodyte or a sailor? The tunnel is super efficient but I reckon that feeling of standing on the deck with the wind in your hair watching the white cliffs fade into the distance is the only way to start an adventure. Plus you can't get a greasy fry up in the tunnel.
Well, I was all excited about trying the Tunnel but it didn't quite work out.
I'm almost glad though, because there's something about that journey over by sea. Maybe it's a flashback to those childhood trips (I lived on the East Anglian coast) when we'd get a day return from Felixstowe to Zeebrugghe in Belgium and not even get off the boat. You just went for a day out on a ferry. Of course that was Townsend Thorenson in the days before the Herald of Free Enterprise.
I was gutted to find out that Speedferries have hit the wall. That was a great service. Boulogne not as much of a hole as Calais either.
